The text was anthologized in the collection Carmina illustrium poetarum italorum, edited by Giovanni Gaetano Bottari (Florence: Typis Regiae Celsitudinis), vol. VII (1720), pp. 145-149: Francisci Patricii Senensis De Christi natali, ad Pium Secundum Pont. Max. = Poem. 2.2, inc. 'Quid modo concubia meditaris nocte Menalca.' See also p. 29: a poem in elegaic couplets, 20 lines, from Dominicus Ortanius ‘ad Franciscum Patricium Senensem’, inc. Si mihi Calliope cunctis veneranda poetis', a poetical panegyric of Patrizi.
Twenty-three of the 345 poems were edited by L. F. Smith (1968; see Bibliography). These texts are most easily accessible via the website “Italian Poetry in Latin, 13th-16th Centuries,” maintained by the Università Ca’ Foscari, Venice.
De institutione reipublicae libri IX
All the sixteenth-century editions are presumptively based on the editio princeps published in Paris in 1518, and available through Early European Books via ProQuest. The dedication copy to Sixtus IV (MS Vat. lat. 3084) can be accessed through DigiVat, maintained by the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana. The Italian translation by Giovanni Fabrini (1545) is also available through Early European Books. The French translation by Jacques Tigeou (1589) can be found through the same site.
De regno et regis institutione libri IX
All the sixteenth-century editions are presumptively based on the editio princeps published in
Paris in 1519. The edition currently most accessible is that of Jean Charron (father of Pierre Charron), published in Paris in 1567, introduced by the great classical scholar Denys Lambin (The Italian translation by Giovanni Fabrini (Il sacro regno de’l gran Patritio, 1553) is available through Early European Books. The Patrizi project intends to post to this site a corrected transcription of the 1519 edition.
A Moral Method of Civil Policy
Richard Robinson’s 1576 English translation of a Latin-French epitome of Patrizi’s De institutione reipublicae, available through Early English Books Online. A lightly modernized and annotated version of this work will by published by the Liberty Fund in 2023, edited with an introduction by James Hankins and Victoria Pipas, with the assistance of other members of the Patrizi Project.
